Teaching Experience
As a graduate student at Vanderbilt, I’ve had the opportunity to both teach and assist courses for undergraduates and fellow PhD students.
Instructor of Record
-
An introduction to game theory as a tool for understanding decision-making in strategic environments. Students learn how to analyze interactions where outcomes depend on the choices of others, with applications including cooperation & conflict, bargaining, and voting. The course emphasizes translating formal models into intuitive insights that can be applied to real-world problems. As instructor of record, I was designed and delivered the course, developing lectures, assignments, and assessments.
Teaching Assistant
-
A core course in the first-year PhD curriculum covering the foundations of microeconomic theory, including consumer and producer behavior, general equilibrium, and game theory. The course emphasizes formal modeling and the use of theoretical tools to analyze economic interactions.
-
This course applies formal models to understand how elections aggregate preferences and shape political outcomes. Topics include social choice theory, electoral competition, information aggregation, and political persuasion.
-
An intermediate microeconomics course focused on decision-making by individuals and firms under constraints. The curriculum covers consumer choice, firm behavior, and market equilibrium, with an emphasis on building intuition and applying analytical tools.
Student Feedback
"The professor was very open to the students' opinions and would hold "games" for us to better grasp the content. This really helped me better understand the material because it forced us to immediately apply the information we had just received. Posting the lecture slides AND notes really added on to extra help the professor was willing to provide."
"This class is certainly the most informational, helpful class I've ever taken in Econ department because I am now able to apply what I have learned in this class to real world scenarios...My instructor Katherine Parslow is super helpful too. Her presentations, lectures, and notes are straightforward and easy to understand. Her problem sets helped me a lot (and challenged me intellectually too which I think is good). She can explain the concept in a clear and helpful way to students...She's able to make students understand the fundamentals and apply to real world issues."
"Katherine was very open to questions, and was always willing to help. She was willing to take the time to make sure that I understood a question fully if I went to office hours."
